LIONS INDUCTION CEREMONY
Gentlemen !
I on behalf of the offi cers and members of the Lions Clubs of.................
express my pleasure and pride at your presence at this meeyong. You
have been invited to become member(s) of this club as the members
agree that your membership would be benefi cial to the club and to
Lions International. We are all happy and proud of your decision to
join the Lionism.
Membership in a Lions Club is a privilege. You are about to join
the world’s largest and most active service club organization, a
brotherhood of ....... service minded men in .......... clubs in countries or
geographical locations of this world. You were proposed and invited
to join by our lion member who is your sponsor. This invitation is an
honor which is greater because you did not seek it for your sponsor
presented your name, the membership committee recommended you
and the board of directors approved you.
You are aware of the Ethics and Objects of our Association and of the
work which Lionism is doing. I must impress upon each of you that the
privilege of Lions membership also entails definite obligations. Lions
International is not a fraternal, social or political organization, it is a
group of men, bonded together to do this which you can and I cannot
do as individuals, a medium through which men of good will can serve
their fellowmen. The motto of our association and of our own club is
“We Serve” and as you progress in Lionism you will discover the great
satisfaction that comes from sharing in our efforts.
You have seen how Lions Clubs serve their communities and their
neighbors who are blind, sick stricken and handicapped. This
humanitarian work would not be possible unless men were willing to
give their time and effort. Any member will tell you that this requires
work........... work which you will be assigned and which we will expect
you to do. Lionism is a cooperative eff ort in which every member
shares the load so that the load of less fortunate people will not be
so heavy. “The rewards of membership are great. You will enjoy that
fellowship of the fi nest man in your town. You will have the pleasure of
working what other men and through committee service, of directing
their efforts. You will see the problems of the community and as a Lion,
be asked to assume leadership in their solution.
Above all, you will find in your Lions Club a medium through which
you, as good citizens & good neighbors, can express to others the
goodwill which is in your hearts.
The International Association of Lions Clubs as now constituted was
conceived at a meeting in Chicago, Illinois on Jun.e 7, 1917 under the
leadership of founder Melvin Jones."
